Grilled Asparagus with Parmesan

Here's a simple and delicious recipe for grilled asparagus with freshly grated Parmesan and extra virgin olive oil:

Grilled Asparagus with Parmesan and Extra Virgin Olive Oil

  • 1 lb (450g) fresh asparagus, trimmed
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • Lemon wedges, for serving (optional)

  1. Preheat the Grill:
    • Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (about 400-450°F or 200-230°C).
  2. Prepare the Asparagus:
    • Rinse the asparagus under cold water and trim the woody ends (usually about 1-2 inches from the bottom).
    • Pat the asparagus dry with a paper towel.
  3. Season the Asparagus:
    • Place the asparagus on a large plate or baking sheet.
    • Drizzle the extra virgin olive oil over the asparagus, ensuring each spear is well-coated.
    • Sprinkle with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
    • Toss the asparagus gently to evenly distribute the oil and seasonings.
  4. Grill the Asparagus:
    • Place the asparagus directly on the preheated grill grates.
    • Grill the asparagus for about 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally to ensure even cooking. The asparagus should be tender yet still crisp, with slight grill marks.
  5. Finish with Parmesan:
    • Once grilled, transfer the asparagus to a serving platter.
    • Immediately sprinkle the freshly grated Parmesan cheese over the hot asparagus so it melts slightly.
  6. Serve:
    • Optionally, serve with lemon wedges on the side for a fresh citrus squeeze.
    • Enjoy the grilled asparagus warm as a delicious side dish or appetizer.

  • For added flavor, you can drizzle a little balsamic glaze over the asparagus before serving.
  • If you don't have a grill, you can also roast the asparagus in the oven at 425°F (220°C) for about 12-15 minutes, turning halfway through.

Enjoy your grilled asparagus with Parmesan and extra virgin olive oil!
